Ian Runge is an engineer, an economist, a business person and a practitioner, founding Runge Limited in 1977 after working for several years in the mining industry in Australia, the USA and Europe. Runge Limited is one of Australia’s leading mining technology services organisations, listed on the ASX, and now operates through 18 offices in 10 countries with sales to major resource companies worldwide. Ian has been integrally involved in the decisions for major resource projects for over 30 years, and remains a non-executive director of the company.
With personal direct exposure to business cycles over more than 30 years, and experience in different business cultures throughout the world, Dr Runge has a special interest in economics, and particularly decision-making processes under uncertainty. He is recognized as a leading expert in the field of mining economics and strategy and is the author of two books in the fields of mining economics and capital investment under uncertainty. He holds a Master of Engineering from the University of Queensalnd, where he is an Adjunct Professor, as well as a MA and PhD in Economics from George Mason University (Virginia, US). He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
