Karyn Brinkley, Chief Executive Officer


Karyn has wide-ranging experience in change management, governance, marketing, communication and community consultation.  Her career has spanned private and public sectors, in industries as diverse as advertising, agriculture, education, government and port services.  She has postgraduate qualifications in business, with specialist expertise in organisational communication.  Karyn took up the role of CEO of the Brisbane Institute after two years with the Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet as Executive Director, State Services.  She has previously spent three years in the UK as Pro Vice Chancellor of a small Manchester university, responsible for the university’s non-academic functions.  This followed a three-year period with Griffith University as Director, External Relations, where she was responsible for rebranding the university and for the international-award winning “Get Smarter” marketing campaign.  Karyn is co-editor of She Said What? and They Said That, published by Management Press. She is also chair of Circa, Brisbane’s home-grown contemporary circus ensemble now hailed worldwide as one of the most dynamic forces in new circus.

Fiona Tristram, Communications & Events


Fiona is responsible for The Brisbane Institute’s events and communications. With over 14 years of communication experience, she has worked in varying industries including government, education, finance and aviation in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Before joining the institute, Fiona was a Senior Communications Adviser for Boeing Defence Australia and a tutor in public relations at Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University.

Peter Ashton, Office Administration

Peter is a highly experienced office administrator with an extensive background in financial administration with government and small business.  He is responsible for the office and financial administration of The Brisbane Institute.
