In this special state election issue:
We compare the 2012 Queensland election policies of the ALP and LNP in four key areas Brisbane Institute subscribers have nominated as important to them: education, health, transport and infrastructure, and environment; while Institute CEO Karyn Brinkley laments the lack of deep policy debate and the dearth of big ideas.
Can voters make good decisions in a policy vacuum?
Fate of the state: what futures might Queensland face in the next three years?
Education: Grand rhetoric translates to incrementalism
Health: Feeble preventative health policies need treatment
Transport and Infrastructure: Pedestrian policies expose lack of options
Thank you for that interesting file on the Queensland state election which I saved on my computer for reading today, Sunday 25th March.
It certainly provides a chilling image of the democracy we practise in my home state at the dawn of the 3rd millenium.
I must confess I somewhat naively thought that the days of Sir Johannes Bjelke-Petersen had long disappeared with the dinosaurs.
I guess we still follow the leader as usual and ask no questions. It just goes to show that we Queenslanders really are a no-nonsense, easy-going bunch.
Come the third World War, we’ll all volunteer again as we did in 1914.
