Professor Graham Schaffer, Executive Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology, University of Queensland

Professor Schaffer is responsible for the academic leadership and management of UQ’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology, and accountable for all aspects of academic programs, staff management and resource allocation, as well as representation of the Faculty and University to the wider community.

Professor Schaffer has been at The University of Queensland since 1991 and has served as the Head of the Materials Division in the School of Engineering, Research Director for the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture and Head of the School of Engineering.

Professor Schaffer’s research is concerned with particulate metals processing and the light metals. His early research led to the formation of Antaria Limited, an advanced materials company listed on the ASX.  At The University of Queensland, he pioneered the development of sintered aluminium alloys for the automotive industry.

He is a  Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals and a member of the Boards of QMI Solutions Ltd and Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation Ltd. He was previously on the Board of CRCMining and was a member of the ARC College of Experts for 2007-2009. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and an Honorary Professor at Central South University, China and a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University in the UK.
